“Unguarded thoughts will create careless talk, careless talk will produce unproductive actions, unproductive actions will contaminate our hearts. A contaminated heart will abort your harvest!” ~Pastor Nick Scaglione
God wants you living a life far beyond what you can ask, think, dream or even imagine. Are you living your best life? Many people are frustrated and not living life to its full potential because of hindrances.
A hindrance is a person or thing that interferes with or slows the progress of someone or something.
Let’s take a look at four of the greatest hindrances that will interfere with you living an abundant life.
Hindrance #1: Careless Talk
“Did you see the dress Karen had on today? That dress does not belong on her body, at all!” “They only gave Bob that promotion because he’s the boss’s favorite. I do a much better job than Bob, because I am a woman and women are much better than men!” “I am so dumb and will not get anywhere in life.”
The above statements are all examples of careless talk. Careless talk will hinder your progress in life and hinder you from getting the results you desire. Your words can either build your life or destroy it! So choose wisely! Guard your mouth and be mindful of your conversations. If your conversations involve gossip, envy, jealousy or self-pity, you have entered into the zone of worthless talk.
Stay away from worthless talk and follow God’s plan for your conversations found in Ephesians 4:29: “Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.”

Hindrance #2 Not Keeping your Heart
Have you ever heard of the expression garbage in, garbage out? That statement applies to your heart as well.
Many people are unaware of how resentment, unforgiveness and jealousy contaminates their heart. The Bible says it this way in Job 5:2, “Resentment destroys the fool and jealousy kills the simple.” When we hold onto unforgiveness and are jealous of others we are not trusting God and we are setting ourselves up for failure! We see in Galatians 5:19-21 that those who practice these things are operating in the flesh and will not inherit the rewards of the Kingdom of God! Let God reward you by choosing to forgive and move on! Don’t ever go to bed angry!
Your heart requires continual oversight. You must constantly guard what you are saying, who you are listening to and what you are putting before your eyes. Why? Because your heart will shape your life.
So what should you put in your heart? The word of God! John 6:63, says it is God’s Spirit that gives life! He is the life giver. We must spend time reading the word of God and listening to the Holy Spirit. Don’t be so busy in life that you neglect spending time with your Heavenly Father! Being too busy will create a contaminated heart! Whoever is not being fed is dying! The more you eat the more you will grow!
Stay away from an uncontaminated heart by continuing to pour life, the word of God in it. If you are Spirit Fed, then you will be Spirit Led!

Hindrance #3 Unspiritual Relationships
“Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt good manners and morals and character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 AMPC
Have you ever been around someone that only talked about the struggles in life and complained all the time? You may often hear them say, “The struggle is real!” And you never hear them talk about the goodness of God. Or how God is a deliverer and a provider.
The bible warns you not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, those whose faith is inconsistent with yours. Why? Because you are going in different directions with different mindsets and different views.
You become like the people you spend the most time with. So, choose wisely. These people will cause you to operate in doubt and unbelief versus operating in faith. Watch the people you hang around, your life depends on it!

Hindrance #4 Pride
“I am always right.” “I am grown and dont need anyone telling me what to do.” “I am self-made.” “It’s all about me!”
The above statements are all examples of a prideful person. When you are in pride, everything is about you. Even when you are in error, you fight harder to keep your position than to admit you are wrong and seek correction. People that are proud resist accountability. Everyone should be accountable to someone. Accountability is the breeding ground for growth and development.
No one knows everything but God. Get rid of pride and depend on God for all things!
